"Stand Your Ground" Law

This law is the most important piece of legislation to affect Arkansas concealed carry holders since the passage of the Concealed Carry Act in 1995.

The “Stand Your Ground” bill would make three major improvements to current law. First, it would remove the duty for an individual to retreat if threatened with a felony involving force or violence. An individual would have the right to defend himself or herself and not be required to turn and run from an attacking criminal. Second, it would give a presumption of justifiable use of whatever means the individual used to defend themselves, to include deadly force. This removes the Monday-morning quarterbacking of the means and use by which the individuals defended themselves, and tips the scales of justice back in favor of the victim. And thirdly, in addition to the civil immunities already granted Arkansas residents for legal actions taken to defend themselves, it further bolsters this protection by awarding them reasonable attorney fees, court costs, compensation for loss of income, and all expenses incurred by an individual in defense of any civil action brought against them by the criminal.

According to the CATO Institute, 87% of all violent crime is committed outside the home…the dominion of the concealed carry holder. This law is a must for Arkansas concealed carriers.
